Manny Abeyta
A former professional pitcher and 4 year letterman for University of Las Vegas (UNLV), Manny set numerous pitching records for the rebels that still stand since he left in 1975.
Originally drafted by the California Angels, his tenure of 8 years in their system as well as Minnesota Twins and was called to the major leagues and pitched under Billy Martin with the Oakland Athletics.
Manny was a 3 time Minor League All Star and his career was highlighted with an 18 game winning season in 1980 for the Mexico City Tigers. His success that year led the club to the division championship.
Over the past 20 years, he's been active with community affairs in Las Vegas. Among positions served were the City Finance Committee, and he chaired the Community Block Grant Committee for 8 years. He sat on the board of directors for the City of Las Vegas Parks and Recreation Department for 12 years.
He presently serves as Vice President of the Las Vegas Chapter of the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association as well as serves on the board of Directors of the Young Readers Council, a 501 (c)3 charitable organization.
